Mr Malcolm Maclean (Chair of the Board)                                           

Malcolm Maclean JP was born in Edinburgh 1961. He retired in 2021 following a successful career as a  Civil Servant, latterly in a senior commercial role within HMRC focusing on Government IT. He currently lives in Shifnal, Shropshire with his wife Susan and their daughter Kirsty. Malcom is involved in volunteering for Church and community activities, including Shropshire Magistrate and Presiding Family Justice 2007-2023. He has been Parent/Foundation governor at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Shifnal 2006 - 2024. He was Churchwarden at St. Andrews Shifnal from 2007-2014. Malcolm is a Deanery Lay Chair since 2021 and has been Lay chair of PCC and Parish Safeguarding Officer 2014 – 2024. He is also a Trustee of Brooke Educational Foundation Charity and an Elected Member of Lichfield Diocesan Synod since 2021 (re-elected 2025). Some of Malcolm’s other involvements are Director of Lichfield Diocesan Board of Finance and Director of Lichfield Diocesan Education Trust since 2021; Diocesan Vocations Advisor since 2022; Elected Member of Lichfield Bishops Council.

Sir Christopher Stone                                                                           

Chief Academic Officer for the Emirates International Schools, Dubai. Previously the Global Chief Education Officer for GEMS Education responsible for all leadership appointments and standards in 92 schools serving 250,000 children from Chicago to Singapore. Prior to that he was CEO of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership – a successful multi academy trust in the UK (comprising 18 schools). He is recognised as an outstanding leader providing leadership, learning and teaching support in the 3-21 range. Appointed to his first role as a Principal in 1995 successive Ofsted reports described him as "a visionary leader" and his schools as 'making outstanding progress' due to his ‘outstanding and inspiring leadership’. On behalf of the British Council he has provided leadership, guidance and training for Principals and Ministers in Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, Finland and Scotland.  He was made a National Leader of Education in 2008 (the first cohort to be selected) and his inclusion in the New Year’s Honours list of 2013 endorsed his outstanding service to education when he was awarded a knighthood bestowed by Queen Elizabeth II. In 2012 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Birmingham City University and then also in 2018 by Liverpool Hope University for his work in educational leadership and for driving up educational standards nationally. He has been asked to provide support and guidance to successive UK governments taking him into regular contact with a number of British Prime Ministers. His work as a National Leader helped bring about the creation of National Teaching Schools (NTS) where teachers were trained in schools rather than universities. His MAT was the first to be designated as an NTS.

Mr Carl Steventon

Carl currently works for Hereford Diocese safeguarding team. Prior to joining the team, Carl was a Police Officer for 30 years. He retired from West Midlands Police Force in 2020. Carl was Chair of Governors of The Trinity Federation; a formal federation of three schools who joined SCEAT as part of the founding group. Carl was Chair of the Finance and Premises Committee at The Trinity Federation for many years and has been involved in managing the complexities of multiple school budgets. Carl has board level experience outside of education. He used to sit on multi-agency boards which looked at identified vulnerable people who were on the periphery of entering the criminal justice system and explored interventions to support the person and their family.  As a tutor officer, he was responsible for the training and development of new police recruits and taught future tutor officers to deliver the course. He sat on recruitment boards for new police officers.

Mr Ian Wilson

Ian brings to SCEAT a wide range of educational governance and school leadership experience. Ian is currently CEO of a Multi-Academy Trust in Staffordshire. In this role, he supports and enables learners to believe in themselves, to succeed in life and to aspire to be all that they can be. In a teaching career from the classroom through to leading a Church of England High School, this experience of effective leadership underpins his work as Chief Executive Officer and Accounting Officer.

Mr Martin Bennett

Martin brings to the Trust over 23 years experience as a school governor. Retired Local Government Officer, Martin served as a Director and the Chair of the Ethos Group Oswestry for over a decade; a local charity focused on providing transitional housing for individuals with Spinal Injuries. He is also a member of one of the Lichfield Diocesan Education committees. Martin has been a local preacher since 1997 and holds the position of Secretary to the Oswestry Methodist Church Council and Pre-School Group. Beyond his public service roles, Martin contributed significantly to the voluntary sector. He was an active member of the Oswestry CAB management committee for approximately 20 years, serving as Chair on multiple occasions and leading nationally required reviews. Martin served as a dedicated Councillor on Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry Borough Council, and Shropshire Council. Martin has served as Mayor four times, holding three Town Mayorships and one Borough Mayoral position.
